Stagnation is not about how long you stay. It is about how long you stop exploring

A run-of-the-mill approach has never taken anyone very far—it keeps you following familiar tracks and repeating familiar patterns.

But many misunderstand what makes a career run-of-the-mill. Doing the same job for years does not make it run-of-the-mill. Doing that job for years without exploring, questioning, learning, analysing or improving does.

Staying in one organization or one role can actually give you the depth to see what others miss—the opportunity to understand better, challenge existing ways, experiment, improve systems and continuously reinvent what you do.

You can change jobs every two years and still have a run-of-the-mill career. And you can stay in one place for twenty years while constantly discovering new paths.

Stagnation is not about how long you stay. It is about how long you stop exploring.
