The Other Side of Caring for Ageing Parents

Ageing changes not only our parents, but also the way we worry about them.
Once, the fear was, “What if they suffer?”
Slowly, it can become, “What if their ageing makes us suffer?”
Their needs become demands.
Their dependence becomes inconvenience.
Their repetition tests our patience.
And what we once called care can quietly begin to feel like a burden.
Perhaps this is one of life’s toughest tests—when love is no longer about affection, but about patience, responsibility, and tolerance.
They once adjusted their lives around our needs. Age may eventually ask us to do the same.
The real question is not whether ageing parents become difficult.
It is whether their difficulties change the person we choose to be.
